Mother's Day, May 9th, and other news
Dear St. Paul's Congregation,
This is a very special Mother's Day for me. On November 2, 2009, my mother died at the age of 85. This is my first mother's day without my mother to be around to send flowers, talk to on the phone, or share a visit.
In honor of her life, and all of the mothers represented at St. Paul's, I'm going to be preaching a sermon entitled, Seven Things My Mother Taught Me. The sermon includes humorous and serious stories about a woman who shaped my life in ways that only God can fully understand. I hope you will enjoy hearing this message as much as I will enjoy giving it.
We have a special services and an "in between" special event this Sunday.
- 8:30: Prelude by Gayle Friz and Fern Black, Songsters will sing, A Mother's Love. We will honor Carol Wipke for her many years of service as the director of Songsters. The choir will have a surprise for the congregation at the end of worship.
- 9:45: There will be a special fellowship time in the Multipurpose Room between services. Our ABF's will all come together, and our Kitchen Committee will provide goodies for this special occasion. There will be a short program during this event.
- 11:00: Our Worship Team leads in familiar songs of praise. Natalie Bish will do signing during the song, Shout to the Lord. A grandmother-mother-daughter quartet, made up of Melody and Kyra McArthur, and Vicky and Brenna Schjenken, will sing Wonderful, Merciful Savior for the offering. This will be our last Sunday with Brian and Natalie Bish, and we will pray for them as they prepare to do a trial sermon next week at St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Jamestown, MO.
In other news, Dana and Eric Button had a baby boy, Noah! Ruby Mahaffie, Betty Keely, baby Ruth Yarbrough (waiting heart transplant), Alvera Rohman and Leone Dierberg are hospitalized. And both Ralph Percival and Pastor Herbert Stemler will have pace makers put in next week.
I'm looking forward to worship this Sunday. Come and worship with your entire family, and if you're mother is alive, be sure to honor her in some special way.
Grace and peace to all!
Pastor Mark Friz
