During the 40 Days of Community, the focus is on how we accomplish all five purposes for the church better together. So far in this series, we have talked about 1) how we reach out better together, and how 2) we fellowship better together. Today's sermon is based on how to help each other grow (discipleship).

Pastor Mark notes examples in the book of Philippians of Paul helping the Philippains to grow. He then zeros in on one of the most important ways Paul helps people to grow: by pointing them toward Jesus Christ.

David's success leads to the sin of pride, and the subsequent pain that follows his sinful choice. God provides an altar which carries a great deal of symbolism for us as we consider Christ and his forgiveness.

David contemplates God's promise given in the first half of chapter 17. David is not to build God a house. Instead, God will build David a dynasty. David is in awe that God could be so generous with him and his family.
